Major Crisis of Epic Proportions

MY VACUUM BROKE!!!

Only those who really know me would truly understand why I'm so distraught. You see, I have this...quirk, where I have to vacuum my apartment every few days. Sometimes, I vacuum even more frequently than that, especially after particularly long/stressful days or days when I cook at home. Next to a hot shower and vegging out to Food Network, I'd have to say that vacuuming is one of my topmost therapeutic activities. But it's more than just therapy, because if I let a few days pass where I don't vacuum, it takes it's toll in a mental and physical way (read: eye-twitching and sleepless nights).

So Wednesday night, I get home and ALL I want to do is take a hot shower, eat a simple dinner, and vacuum before I sit down to watch Project Runway. I plug in the vacuum, press the power pedal, and after just a few rows of vacuuming the rug, my vacuum goes "VROOOOooooooo...." and silence. I tap on the power pedal, but no response. No smell of a burnt out belt, the bag was empty, everything seemed to be spinning below, and the cord was plugged in.

I know it's not much of a vacuum but I loved it. It suited my apartment and vacuuming needs, was lightweight, easy to maneuver, and had a long enough power cord for my whole apartment. Now that I'm looking at the prospect of buying a new vacuum, however, I feel like I should buy an "investment" vacuum. I lust after the Dyson, but is it really worth $400?

Snowed In Weekend

DC finally got the snowstorm it was waiting for all winter, and although many of my non-DC native friends amused themselves by teasing Washingtonians for their Chicken-Little syndrome, the snow was enough to keep me snowbound all weekend. I crossed off my planned agenda for the weekend, made a midnight run to the grocery story on Friday night, bought some chicken thighs, noodles, aromatics, and coffee creamer, and put on a huge pot of chicken stew for the weekend. Whereas the original plan was to work at the office thru the weekend, host dinner for the parents, and buy some much-needed work clothes, I've been catching up on reading and movies, eating comfort foods, drinking way too much coffee and red wine, and sleeping in without guilt. So who says snow days are wasted on the weekend. Mmmm

I'll get around to a proper post in a bit, but for now, here's something to brighten your morning:
